Welcome to Undercity.org.

This website was born of a desire to share my love of cities and urban history with a wider audience. As an urban explorer, I try to peel back the layers of a city to see what's underneath. Venturing through the physical layers of a city helps to reveal the historical layers as well, especially in the urban underground.

Thriving cities constantly build over their pasts, and this process often leaves behind inaccessible spaces and marginalized sites. I think that the history of a city is often best understood when seen from these forgotten sites and hard-to-get-to vantage points. From the tops of bridges to the depths of sewer tunnels, these unusual vistas help me puzzle together the interconnected, multi-dimensional history and complexity of the world's great cities.

Click here to see photo galleries, histories, and occasional adventure stories catalogued by city.

Click here to view or purchase fine-art prints from above and below New York, London, Paris, and other cities.

Note: Unfortunately, only a portion of the galleries and stories are live; the working links are in gray text. Thanks in advance for your patience while I work on rebuilding the site! When it is complete I will have photo galleries, histories, and stories of the places I've explored, both in New York City and around the world.

NOTE: YOU MUST HAVE FLASH INSTALLED IN ORDER TO VIEW THE PHOTO GALLERIES ON THIS SITE. Get Macromedia Flash Here.

Thanks to all who joined us at the October 3rd reception in Washington DC. It was a lot of fun and we hope to have another show in the DC area soon! Thanks especially to Dan Regard for hosting us, and to Zan Goldblatt & Pierette Kulpa for curating the show.
