Some quick notes about the UT (Austin) tunnels.

Best time to visit is Saturday night. There are locked gates down there -- with pads that can't be picked -- but most have holes on the top for the thin to crawl through. Like most campus tunnels, they're hot and connect most (all?) the buildings. They're supposed to connect to the east side of campus -- under the interstate -- to the facilities building but we didn't find these tunnels. Bring a flashlight or three.

We found an open door for a building on 21st St. Under a trapdoor is a ladder and we descended. To Jester, to the HRC -- the priceless artifacts are kept there so we were wary of motion detectors and didn't approach too far -- to the undergraduate library, which ran through a cluttered basement full of books and furniture, etc., and eventually exited from underneath the Communications building on 26th.

We didn't see anyone. We came across several staircases/ladders and doors leading outside; all were unlocked from the inside. Gratings also provided an easy way of egress. There were few graffiti marks, mainly some "Orcs this way" and "Dwarf Fortress" tags obviously left over from some D&D game in the 70's or 80's. We had to turn back at a few points because of impenetrable bars.
